One of the most beautiful landscapes
Some of the most beautiful landscapes are found around the Tystrup-Bavelse lakes. The area is one of such rare beauty that in the years 1960-65, the area was partly preserved with a view to making it Denmark's first nature park.

Suserup woods
Suserup woods in also one of the few woods in the country allowed to remain completely untouched.

Næsbyholm and Broby Vester woods
Næsbyholm Storskov and Broby Vesterskov both contain numerous dolmens and mounds. The area also contains Denmark’s third longest dolmen, the Keller dolmen of 125 metres.

History:
Kongskilden (The King’s Spring) first sprung in 1076 in connection with the burial of King
Svend Estridsen – according to Saxo.

The spring is located in the distinctive landscape, which was formed at end of the last ice age.

The oldest nature forest in Denmark, Suserup Woods, was FREDET in 1925, Bavelse and Næs-byholm in 1957 and the Danish Forest and Nature Agency bought Hørhaven in 1963 and later Frederikskilde and Kongskilde Mill.

These areas are the structure of the first nature park in Denmark, Tystrup-Bavelse Nature Park, and were inaugurated by Minister of Culture Julius Bomholt in June 1964.
Further conservation in 1964, 1968 and 1969 has expanded the park, which is 2000 ha today.

The former mill was rebuilt to be the first nature centre and was inaugurated by Queen Margre-the November 27th 1982 as "The independent institution Kongskilde Nature Centre".
