Physical and chemical instruments
Hauch’s Physical Cabinet displays a unique collection of physical and chemical instruments. They have all been collected between 1790 and 1815 by chamberlain and senior court marshal Adam Wilhelm Hauch (1755 to 1838). The instruments were then bought by King Frederik VI in 1815 and donated to Sorø Academy in 1827.

The story of how natural science captivated Denmark
If you would like to see these beautifully processed instruments, you can admire them in the Cabinet at Vænget, Søgade 17. The instruments were recently re-displayed in new and specially designed showcases with unique lighting. Plaques were also put on all the show cases. With stunning graphics the plaques tell the story of how natural science captivated Denmark, providing a unique and interesting experience for the visitor.

Hauch’s Physical Cabinet is one of the latest attractions in Sorø. The museum was opened in 2005 by Queen Margrethe II.
