State boarding school...
The Academy grounds are accessed through the Abbey gate by Torvet in Sorø town centre. Here lies both the Abbey Church, dating back to the year 1200, and Sorø Academy, founded in 1586 by Frederik II. Today Sorø Academy is a state boarding school.
... surrounded by historical buildings
In addition to the main building from 1826, a number of other historical buildings also belong to the Academy, such as Molbech’s House and Ingemann’s House. The canteen and student building, Skjalm Hvide, was inaugurated in 2001, and a new Science Centre was built in 2009. All the new buildings uphold the fine building design that has been a typical feature of the area since the 1100s.
Academy grounds
Sorø Academy, Sorø Academy garden and Sorø Abbey Church are all owned by the Sorø Academy Foundation, which is managed from the stunning administration offices known as "Vænget". Tourists are welcome to visit the Academy grounds to admire the buildings and stunning Academy garden. Tours can be booked through Sorø's Office of Commerce and Tourism.
